Runway Safety Improvements Implemented

New signage, lighting, and operational procedures enhance runway safety and reduce incursion risk.

In response to a series of proactive safety assessments, we have implemented a package of runway safety enhancements at the country’s busiest international airport. These include upgraded signage, improved surface markings, additional stop-bar lighting, and revised ATC procedures to minimize the risk of runway incursions.

The project was developed in coordination with the national civil aviation authority, the airport operator, and airline stakeholders, reflecting a systemic approach to safety under ICAO’s Runway Safety Toolkit. “This is a strong example of collaborative safety management in action,” said the Head of Aerodrome Services. Preliminary results show a measurable reduction in runway hotspot occurrences and enhanced pilot compliance during LVP operations.
